Diocesan Assembly

According to the Constitution of the Malankara Orthodox Church, Every diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church has a Diocesan Assembly. The Diocesan Metropolitan presides over the assembly meeting. All matters related to the spiritual growth of the Diocese are discussed and decided in this administrative body, including the budget and accounts. Each parish of the Diocese is represented at the Assembly by their Vicar and a certain number of elected laity, based on the number of parishioners.

The term of all Diocesan Assembly delegates are five years. The Diocesan Assembly meets once a year or otherwise deemed appropriate by the Metropolitan.

The 47th General Assembly was conducted on 20th July, 2023 at Delhi Orthodox Centre, Tughlakabad. Various topics regarding the development of the diocese were deliberated and discussed in the meeting. Reports of Shantigram, the Mission Project of our Dicoese, and St. Thomas MIssion School, Lucknow were presented by Rev. Fr. Abraham John and Rev. Fr. Lany Chacko respectively.

Following the appointment of Rev. Fr. Saji Yohannan, the Diocesan Secretary since 2017, as the Deputy Secretary of His Holiness’ Office, elections for new Diocesan Secretary was conducted. Rev. Fr. Saji Abraham, at present the Vicar of the St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Ghaziabad was unanimously elected as the new Diocesan Secretary by the Diocesan Assembly for the remaining term of the Assembly i.e. 2022-2027. The Diocese will always be indebted for the exemplary service offered by Rev. Fr, Saji Yohannan. We pray for him to the Almighty God and wish him the best for his future endeavors. Also, we wish the best to Rev. Fr. Saji Abraham to guide the Diocese eminently.
